Places to Kiss -The Best in Hawaii Romantic Travel GuideBy Linnea Lundgren

KILAUEA LAKESIDE ESTATE, Kilauea Sometimes we find a place that is so spectacular, we wonder if we're dreaming. After we pinched ourselves and rubbed our eyes, we realized that Kilauea Lakeside Estate is truly a romantic reality.

On the lush foothills of Kauai, this designer home/vacation rental has its own lake and waterfall, a par-three golf hole, and acre upon acre of privacy. The contemporary hawaiian home is bordered by grassy lawns, more than 40 varieties of fruit trees, and, best of all, a 20-acre freshwater lake stocked with fishand overflowing with recreational water toys. With its bathtub-warm waters and no neighbors in sight, it's the ideal skinny-dipping spot. (Don't tell us you wouldn't do it if you had a chance!) If that's not enough, explore the nearby hiking trail that leads you to a waterfall and some fascinating rock formations built by the ancient Hawaiians.

In the middle of all this is a dream house with everything a home should have, including three bedrooms andthree baths, a fully equipped kitchen, and a large living room with a TV/VCR. kissing comes easily in the upstairs bedroom, thanks to its king-size bed, vaulted ceilings, and windows looking out over the grounds. A walk-in shower and jacuzzi tub with views of the lake complete the wonderful picture. If (and we say this with great hesitation) you need to leave the estate, visit the nearby bird refuge or head down to one of the secluded beaches just a five minute drive away. But who needs secluded beaches with a place like this? Kilauea Lakeside Estate is truly like having a mini-resort all to yourselves.

Romantic Note: Reality bites when it comes to the steep price. However, the home is large enough for two or three couples to easily share, and that brings the costs down to the moderate-to-expensive range. If the two of you do splurge, it's about the same price as an ocean front room in one of Poipu's lixurious hotels.
